EU and PH Government Convene Chambers of Commerce for Green Economy Partnership Dialogue

Makati City – June 3, 2025

In a united effort to accelerate the country’s transition toward a climate-smart, low-carbon future, the European Union (EU) and the Philippine government, through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), convened a high-level consultation with key members of the business community on June 3, 2025 at the Leviste-Dela Rosa-Paseo Hall, Makati Diamond Residences, in Makati City.

The event marked a significant milestone in the rollout of the €60 million EU-Philippines Green Economy Partnership, a flagship programme under the EU’s Global Gateway initiative. This strategic programme supports the Philippines’ shift to a circular economy (CE)—one that is environmentally sustainable, low-carbon, and climate-resilient.

During the consultation, representatives from both the public and private sectors gathered to exchange insights on the progress of the Green Economy Partnership. The objectives were twofold:

To update the Chambers of Commerce on the current developments of the EU-PH Green Economy Partnership

To explore avenues for cooperation, with particular focus on the circular economy and renewable energy sectors

The event drew participation from a wide range of stakeholders, including:

- European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP)

- Dutch Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (DCCP)

- French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Philippines (CCI France-Philippines)

- German-Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GPCCI)

- Italian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ICCPI)

- Nordic Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines

- Spanish Chamber of Commerce (La Cámara)

- Belgian-Filipino Business Chamber (BFBC)

- Embassy of the Czech Republic

- Expertise France

- International Finance Corporation (IFC)

- Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)

- United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

- GIZ

- EU Delegation to the Philippines – Cooperation and Trade Section

Chamber representatives emphasized the critical role of the private sector in realizing the shared goal of a sustainable economic transformation. The Italian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, Inc. (ICCPI) reaffirmed its commitment to actively supporting the initiative, citing the importance of close collaboration between European and Philippine stakeholders to foster innovation and responsible growth.

The EU-PH Green Economy Partnership is one of the most ambitious environmental cooperation frameworks in the region and exemplifies how international collaboration can lead to tangible action toward a greener, more resilient future.
